SOFIA SAERENS

Sofia Saerens (1999)  remains as a testament to the convergence of artistry and fashion. Born and raised in the eclectic city of Brussels, Sofia’s journey in the world of fashion began at the age of 18 when she enrolled at La Cambre mode. Her formative years included a pivotal internship at Ann Demeulemeester in Antwerp during her bachelor’s, shaping her understanding of the industry.

A diverse range of professional experiences unfolded as Sofia ventured into crafting costumes for artists and theatrical productions in Brussels. Her horizons expanded further with a transformative internship at Ester Manas. Currently pursuing a Master 2 with a specialization in knitwear at the esteemed Institut Français de la Mode in Paris, Sofia’s trajectory is a tapestry of creativity woven with threads of hands-on experience and artistic exploration.

In the early stages of her fashion design education, Sofia found inspiration in luminaries like Ann Demeulemeester, Martin Margiela, and Rei Kawakubo, drawn to the androgynous essence embedded in their designs. However, as her journey progressed, she gracefully distanced herself from fashion-centric references. Instead, Sofia sought inspiration in diverse mediums and the world around her, cultivating a unique aesthetic deeply connected to sensorial experiences, specific moments, and the emotions elicited by art or everyday occurrences.

Sofia’s specialization in knitwear amplifies her innate sensitivity, allowing her to delve deeper into the realm of emotion-infused design. Currently immersed in the creation of her final collection, Sofia’s work is an intimate reflection, a tangible manifestation of personal sentiments meticulously woven into each garment. Her exploration of knitwear serves as a canvas where emotions find expression in every stitch, inviting the audience to engage with fashion beyond the visual, to feel the fabric of emotions woven into the very essence of her creations. In Sofia Saerens’ world, fashion transcends mere clothing; it becomes a medium for storytelling, a language of emotions written in the language of threads.
