ROSE BOURDON

In the vast and intricate pyramid of artistic expression, Rose Bourdon (1999) stands out as an irresistible force, weaving her story fluidly through her birth in Portivy, Bretagne, then Paris, and now finding creative resonance in the enchanting city of Piacenza, Italy. Her artistic odyssey is a rich tapestry that unfolds through the educational corridors of Prep’art and the Beaux-Arts de Paris, sculpting her into a multifaceted artist and a beacon of creative exploration.

In the current moment, Rose is deeply immersed in the creation of a bespoke theatrical masterpiece titled « DIPLÔMÉ.ES. » This unique piece takes center stage at the upcoming exhibition « Nos Lignes de Désir, » scheduled for January 23, 2024. In « DIPLÔMÉ.ES, » a collective theatrical venture, five students step into the first-person roles of alumni. These characters, inspired by real-life testimonies collected over months, transcend the boundaries of time and reality. From a student born in 1872, experiencing the first admission of women to the Beaux-Arts de Paris, to tales artfully fabricated in the realm of fact-based fiction, Rose’s work masterfully blurs the lines between truth and imagination. Each actor dons a laurel wreath, symbolizing the rite of passage and distinguishing them within the audience. Rose Bourdon’s pursuit of the « mentir-vrai » (truthful lie) becomes a performance, a deliberate act of weaving narratives into the very fabric of the exhibition’s context.

In parallel, Rose embarks on the creation of her first two cinematic scripts, gracefully straddling the fine line between documentary and fiction. Here, the allure of the « mentir-vrai » persists, echoing the philosophy of « Out to In, » drawing inspiration from the external world to fuel her storytelling. Her painting practice, a distinct realm within her artistic repertoire, serves as a sanctuary of freedom and generosity. Unfolding over three years, Rose navigates the fragility of each stroke, leaving room for fluidity without the burden of ponderous reflection. Her approach, marked by stratification and a cap of 10 paintings at a time, underscores the delicate balance between freedom and structure.

Rose’s creative influences form a diverse constellation, featuring luminaries like Ben Kinmont, Kae Tempest, Bukowski, Goya, James Ensor, Sarah Kane, Bell Hooks, Emir Kusturica, and many more. In her pursuit of fluidity in painting, Rose’s delicate yet resolute strokes weave a tale of authenticity and vitality. Louise Feneyrou-Py curator, aptly encapsulates Rose’s artistic essence, describing her as one who goes straight to the core, making no compromises, and infusing her work with unapologetic authenticity.

As Rose Bourdon’s artistic journey unfolds, it becomes a dance of narratives, a symphony of mediums, each contributing to a collective dialogue that transcends boundaries and embraces the nuanced beauty of the « mentir-vrai. » Through her work, Rose invites us to contemplate the delicate interplay of truth and fiction, reality and imagination, in a captivating exploration of the human experience.
