ALICE LE STER
Allow me to introduce you to the extraordinary journey and creations of Alice Le Ster (1998), Paris, France. Her story unfolds as a fascinating blend of applied arts, fashion design, and a deep exploration of the human experience.
Alice’s artistic journey began with a foundation in applied arts following her general ES baccalaureate. She then pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design at Parsons Paris (2017-2021) and further enriched her experience with a six-month stint at Central Saint Martins in London in 2019. Currently completing her Master 2 in Knitwear Design at the Institut Français de la Mode, Alice’s trajectory is a testament to her dedication to pushing artistic boundaries.
Her notable project, a collaboration with the renowned house Alaïa, resulted in the creation of a striking purple maternity dress. This piece, conceptualized as a celebration of the pregnant female form, goes beyond aesthetics. Alice delves into the taboos surrounding childbirth and miscarriages, exploring the intricate stitches of a cesarean section, influencing the meticulous placement of knit on the body.
As we dive into Alice’s selected works, a dynamic evolution unfolds with each project. The « active/gala » style, a hallmark of her creations, is currently showcased in her Master 2 collection, inspired by the juxtaposition of opulent hip-hop jewelry from the 80s-90s and the delicate, ancient jewels depicted in Chaumet‘s 1969 posters and Erte‘s 1982 illustrations.
Alice seamlessly merges these influences, giving birth to a collection that not only defines her evolving tastes and personality but also interweaves textures of chains and watches into the fabric, adding a three-dimensional depth to her knitwear. For color inspirations, Alice draws from the bold color blocks of artist Marc Rothko and the expressive scratches of Hans Hartung.
In an effort to make the artistic narrative accessible to a diverse audience, this article unfolds in a language that resonates with both art aficionados and those less acquainted with this form of expression.
Alice Le Ster’s work transcends the conventional boundaries of fashion and art, inviting us into a realm where the sculptural nature of the pregnant body, the grandeur of hip-hop culture, and the timeless elegance of vintage jewelry converge. Her creations tell a story that goes beyond the fabric and stitches—they speak to the human experience, challenging taboos, and celebrating the dynamic evolution of personal style.
