DIANE SERFATI

In the heart of Le Marais, Paris, where the pulse of fashion beats fervently during each Fashion Week, Diane Serfati (1999) stylist and art director, was born and raised. Despite her parents’ pursuits lying outside the realm of fashion—her mother an antiquarian bookseller and her father orchestrating concerts in the music industry—Diane’s immersion in the world of style was inevitable. A pivotal moment occurred when she encountered the designs of Christophe Lemaire, sparking a deep connection and a realization that she wanted to contribute to this captivating industry.

Diane’s journey in the world of style began with a Bachelor’s degree in Stylist-Design at LISAA after completing her Bac L. Over the next 2-3 years, she transitioned from a stylist assistant to independently taking on styling projects. Currently pursuing an master degree in Fashion Image at Institut Français de la Mode, Diane’s trajectory is marked by a passion for building stories, characters, and images that push the boundaries between purity, sensuality, desire, beauty, boldness, edginess, sex, and intimacy.

Her list of obsessions reads like a curated collage of influences—from Patricia Field and Ai Weiwei to the Olsen sisters and the timeless Christophe Lemaire. However, it’s in her exploration of fashion image that Diane finds her true enthusiasm. She revels in discovering new talents across various creative domains, building narratives that play with the delicate interplay of elements.

Diane defines her stylings as sensual. Intrigued by the contours of the body, she often leans towards minimalist, nearly naked aesthetics, preferring styles that are not overly adorned. Her focus extends to the details, emphasizing the beauty of the skin and the nuances of garments. Casting, beauty looks, makeup, hairstyles, and accessory details all hold equal importance in Diane’s meticulous process.

Music videos become a canvas for Diane’s artistic expressions. Collaborating with various artists, she finds inspiration in the unique styles of figures like Sam Quealy, Lana Del Rey, Frank Ocean, and more. Music videos and album covers, with their dynamic visual language, offer a wellspring of ideas for Diane’s creative endeavors.

Diane’s golden era is the ’90s and early 2000s, where the Porno Chic movement, led by figures like Carine Roitfeld, Mario Testino, and Tom Ford, captivates her. Carine Roitfeld’s work, characterized by humor and an ability to surprise and shock, resonates deeply with Diane.

Ren Hang and Coco Capitan‘s photography, with its intimate and spontaneous essence, profoundly impacts Diane. The portrayal of nudity in private spaces evokes a sense of closeness and desire, revealing the multifaceted nature of human connection.

In the hands of Diane Serfati, fashion becomes a powerful language—a means to explore sensuality, challenge conventions, and weave narratives that linger in the viewer’s mind long after the last glance.
