LÉO ACHARD
In the picturesque alleyways of Arles, between the Alpilles and Camargue area, a young artist emerges with a dazzling creativity. Léo Achard (2000) opens the doors to his artistic universe, imbued with travels and diverse inspirations.
Hailing from Arles, Léo grew up amidst photographic encounters and the Roman remnants that sculpt his imagination. Currently based in Porto, Portugal, he shares his artistic journey that kicks off with a science degree specializing in plastic arts in Marseille. Quickly immersing himself in the world of interior architecture and design at Camondo school, Léo spends five years in Paris, with a detour to Toulon to explore eco-responsibility.
Summers and vacations become artistic stopovers, attending « summer classes » at Penninghen, Central St Martins, and Elisava in Barcelona. It’s a constant voyage, both geographical and creative, fueling Léo’s inspiration.
Now, juggling between his role at the Garcé & Dimofski architecture agency and personal projects, Léo unveils his eclectic influences. From traversed landscapes to abandoned street objects, even the shape of a simple breakfast cereal, his artistic gaze embraces the ordinary to extract the extraordinary.
The mentioned names, like Dirk Wander Kooij, Johanna Seelemann, and Studio 5.5, reveal the rich palette that feeds his work. Yet, Léo doesn’t merely collect influences; he integrates, transforms, and merges them to create unique, extraordinary atmospheres and moments.
His street art legacy shines through in his current practice, gradually transitioning from urban art to interior architecture, object design, photography, and graphic design. An artistic melting pot also reflected in his thesis exploring spaces present in dreams.
Balancing between craftsmanship and industrial waste, his work unfolds as a subtle equilibrium. Raw materials such as metal and stone come to life under his expert hands. The simplicity of forms and the graphic aspect become key elements, illustrating his desire to surprise and bring the unexpected.
Following in the footsteps of Léo Achard, we discover an artist challenging boundaries between disciplines, capturing beauty in the ordinary, and transforming the existing into an artistic ballet. Nurtured by constant observation of the real, his work invites us to dive into a world where creativity transcends limits, awakening our fascination for the unknown.
