LOUISE BELIN

Louise Belin (1998) a visionary artist hailing born and raised in Mantes-La-Jolie, West Greater Paris area and she brings a unique perspective to the realm of contemporary art. At 25 years old, Louise’s creative journey has taken her from the picturesque landscapes of Rouen to the vibrant artistic scene of Marseille, where she is currently based. Armed with a Diplôme National d’Art Plastique (DNA) from the Beaux-Arts de Rouen in 2019 and a Diplôme National Supérieur d’Expression Plastique (DNSEP) from the Beaux-Arts de Marseille in 2022, she now dedicates herself to her craft at l’atelier Sili in Marseille. This workshop, co-founded with the Mastic Collectif, showcases her ongoing commitment to artistic exploration and collaboration.

Central to Louise’s artistic practice are her theoretical influences, which inform the intricate tapestry of her work. Drawing inspiration from luminaries such as Hito Steyerl and Trevor Paglen, Louise grapples with the pervasive issue of image saturation and its implications on collective consciousness. Likewise, her cinematic influences, including the masterful Michael Haneke, infuse her work with a haunting sense of detachment, characterized by a palette of cold blues and a keen observation of the human condition.

However, it is in her pictorial references that Louise’s artistic identity truly comes to life. From the hyperrealistic canvases of Gerhard Richter to the post-internet explorations of Nina Childress and Catherine Mulligan, Louise navigates the vast landscape of contemporary painting with precision and depth. Her style, characterized by its figurative realism and photographic proximity, blurs the lines between image and reality, inviting viewers to question the nature of perception and representation.

In essence, Louise Belin’s art resides in the delicate balance between the tangible and the ethereal, the seen and the unseen. Through her masterful use of aqueous brushstrokes and subtle digital artifacts, she creates a visual language that speaks to the subconscious, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in a world where boundaries dissolve, and the ordinary becomes extraordinary. As light dances upon her canvases, it is as if we are submerged underwater, exploring the depths of human experience through the lens of Louise’s unparalleled artistic vision.
