LUCIE HERLEMONT
Beyond the frame of artistic narratives, Lucie Herlemont (1997), emerges from the dynamic landscapes of Valenciennes, navigating between the northern realms of France and the artistic tapestry of Belgium. Today, she finds her home in the heart of Paris.
Her artistic journey takes root in the halls of L’Institut Saint-Luc de Tournai, where she pursued the Volume section during her high school years. After securing her CESS (Belgian Baccalaureate), Lucie embarked on a solitary year in the USA at the age of 17, immersing herself in the language and culture. Upon her return, a brief stint at the university beckoned with dreams of becoming a gallerist, yet the allure of creation proved irresistible. She pivoted to the Ecole Supérieure d’Art et de Design de Valenciennes, culminating in the attainment of her Diplôme National d’Art. Her academic pursuits continued, leading her to a master’s degree in Sculpture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. Today, she stands as an accomplished visual artist, weaving tales through her chosen medium.
In the rich tapestry of her influences, Lucie draws inspiration from the works of Teresa Margolles, Eric Giraudet de Boudemange, and the writings of Charles Stépanoff. The avant-garde creations of Iris Van Herpen also find a place among her artistic muses.
Lucie’s artistic manifesto unfolds as a poetic exploration. Hailing from a region steeped in industrial history, she melds the pastoral with the abandoned, infusing her practice with a profound appreciation for laborious craftsmanship. Her artistic terrain spans myths and rituals, crafting a syncretic and anachronistic universe. In this realm, questions of heritage and gestures manifest in an oneiric lexicon – the rustle of poplar leaves interrupted, delicate paper lace scalpel-cut, human teeth suspended by dental floss, and a greenhouse where mourning plants gasp for breath. Her artistic exploration thrives in the cohabitation and dialogue of diverse customs observed worldwide.
In the realm of Lucie Herlemont’s artistry, each creation is a testament to the convergence of dreams, rituals, and the delicate dance between disparate traditions. Her work serves as an ever-evolving narrative, inviting viewers into a world where the past and present intertwine, and where craftsmanship and imagination collide in a captivating dance of creativity.
